Spartia |
|
Spartia is a relatively small village lying close to the south coast of Kefalonia. Set in fertile land of olive groves, vineyards and citrus trees Spartia has its own bay. The coast around Spartia is a mixture of rocky outcrops and secluded sandy coves.
The famous Castle of Saint George overlooks the village and makes a wonderful backdrop—especially in the evenings when the whole castle is floodlit.
The Saint Andreas monastery has been converted into a museum, showing fabulous wall-paintings and artists’ impressions.
The villages of Travliata and Peretata are only a few minutes’ drive. Within these villages is a variety of tavernas serving many traditional island dishes.
For a break from the traditional Greek evenings and entertainment you may wish to try out the ten-pin bowling alley in Travliata.
Shopping is not too far away in the capital Argostoli which is around ten minutes drive from Spartia
Although only a few miles south-east of the airport Spartia could be in a different world. It is a typically Greek village with a few tavernas and a ‘provisions’ shop. |
