Livadi Kefalonia

Situated about five miles north of Lixouri (Kefalonia’s second-largest town) Livadi is a small village based at the head of the Gulf of Lixouri.

The white beaches stretch southwards and are very gently shelving—ideal for young and inexperienced swimmers.  The area bordering the north of the Gulf is of great natural and historical importance.  The north beach is a haven for herons, buzzards, kites and ducks.  The whole area around Livadi is now the focus of the new book ‘Odysseus Unbound’ which offers very compelling evidence that the Paliki Peninsula is the original Ithica as described by Homer.  This is an ideal centre for exploring the evidence.

The Lotos taverna is situated at the edge of the village, serving sea-food and various traditional dishes.

The fabulous beaches of Petani, Atheras Bay and Zola are a short drive away.

Lixouri is only ten minutes drive away.  Here, the town offers eating experiences from traditional tavernas to more international cuisine.  Prior to a relaxing evening in the town you may wish to peruse the numerous gift shops to be found along the newly pedestrianised areas off the main square.

Most of the coffee-bars and snack-bars are gathered around the huge rubber tree which is found in the main square of the town.
